Smt. Chanda Devi S. Kothari Academy for Women is a Community College founded in July 1980 by Late Sri. B.K. Kothari, a well-known businessman and Philanthropist of Chennai, in memory of his mother, with the co-operation, assistance and support of his friend, philosopher and guide Late Prof. S.R.Govindarajan, an educator par excellence. The Academy was formally inaugurated on 9th of July 1980 by H.E. Shri. Prabhudas B.Patwari, then Governor of Tamilnadu. The Academy is a completely service-oriented organization intended to impart meaningful education of a high order, appropriate to women of several levels of attainment.

The Academy offers post-graduate and under-graduate professional courses, skill-oriented courses, early childhood education and vocational training for school leavers, graduates and housewives.

The Academy is an autonomous institution with goals of excellence in Professional, Vocational and Concurrent Education. The academy is a recognized study centre for Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi, for M.Sc., Dietetics and Food Service Management.

The campus is ideally located in a quiet area and the atmosphere is relaxed, chaste and comfortable. The H.B.M hostel, to accommodate about 100 girls is available in the campus. The academy has a mini-theatre, prayer hall and an open-air theatre. Adequate provision has been made for self-study in the well stacked library. Laboratories and studios are fully equipped and a full range of audio visual equipment is available. There are adequate play fields and recreation facilities.
